Battlefield club we had a lot of wind during this tournament where it was actually affecting pitch shots and putts by blowing them well past the end targets at times by as much as 20 feet! Tough conditions especially when the short to mid wedge game has been struggling. Coouple that with a really tight back nine and it makes for tough conditions.
At the University Club of Kentucky, I felt like, and my stats show, I was Solid off the tee only missing fairways by minimal amounts. The same with my iron game, ball striking was great and putting was solid. I felt if I was inside 12 feet, the ball was going in and I made the majority of those putts. Where I struggled again was the short to mid wedge game. I didn’t really get myself into scoring position very well which definitely affected my Par 5 scoring average (5.0), my par 4 scoring (4.2), and my par 3 scoring (3.63). There was a lot left on the course during this tournament where had my short game been my average, I could have really been contending with the tournament leaders overall. Knowing this coming into conference, I’ve been trying to work on this, but we don’t have a great course near us to really drill down at practice so I make the most of my weekends by practicing back home. With my ball striking the way it is right now, I’m looking forward to competing on a great course at conference (Belterra Golf Course, Florence IN) and performing at a level I’m used to with my wedges and making some noise!
